allure: tempt - stimulate - provoke

What allures us? What do we struggle with? What appeals to us? How a phenomenon perceived as intriguing can trigger a pleasant, captivating effect on us – one that may tempt, enchant us, while simultaneously challenging, provoking, or even annoying us. In any case, such phenomena capture our attention and cause us to engage with them, perhaps even changing our behavior. Desire and pain, promise and disillusionment are often interwoven in allure. By playing with the ambiguity of the term 'to allure,' this concept is explored and made fruitful in the artistic discourse. On one hand, art can react to certain «intriguing» phenomena while, at the same time, it can be perceived as «intriguing» in itself.

We ask about the appeal of art: How does it become visible? What does it change? And what would the appeal of the world be without artistic expression? This might be alluring.

In response to these observations, assertions and questions, the insitution Haus zur Glocke was seeking through a Call for Artists for aristic positions. The call was intended as an invitation to propose both existing art and works that will specifically be developed for the exhibition and our house.
