The spring exhibition at Haus zur Glocke ties in with the subject of man-made things. It shows four positions that either implement craftsmanship in their work or address it through their work. It is equally at hand that artistic work also means representing the world as it appears, must not hide behind nostalgic ideas.
With his collection of Netsuke, Japanese gems, Florian Langegger from Uttwil also indirectly addresses his passion for the mastery of carved treasures. His recent publication shows motifs from his collection in a comprehensive historical comparison.
In May 2007, Maria Pomiansky and Vadim Levin documented the two long weekends of “What’s cooking?” at Haus zur Glocke in drawing and photography. This time around, they have visited the studios of artists in Thurgau and tried to capture their surroundings with pen and brush. The two present their artistic-journalistic results in the exhibition.
Marija Tavčar is both costume designer and artist, and, with “Dolldrome”, has created handmade, mostly hybrid dolls between humans and animals for the Haus zur Glocke, which she stages its rooms. Each doll should move their viewer through their respective story. The artists’ intention is to provoke emotional reactions in the viewer, and also to amuse.
In her painterly work, Fides Becker deals with spaces and objects shaped by man. She describes her work as search for clues in order to gauge that which is mysterious. Behind the illusionistic images – frequently containing a ‘morbid romanticism’ – there is often an individual story. Fides Becker will question the rooms and objects of the Haus zur Glocke about it, and will create new images in addition to those she brought along.
